GL Electrology Chicks' Nights

At Greater Lansing Electrology we realize that we our lives often travel on parallel courses. Our days are filled with similar challenges--be they children, spouses, aging parents, stress, diet/exercise, and just observing our bodies age before our very eyes! We figured some informative, but fun-filled Chick Nights were in order. A chance to get together with friends (and make some new ones), share some food and drink, commiserate and learn about ways to meet life's various challenges. Plus, who doesn't need a night out with the girls every once in a while?

Please join us for our next Chicks' Night on Monday, March 14th at 6:30 pm at Houlihan's Restaurant. We're planning an informal girls' night out--Dutch treat. RSVP so that we can save you a seat.

Yes You Can! Making Yourself a Priority in 2011

"If you are traveling with a child or other person needing assistance, put on your oxygen mask first, before you assist them" instructs the flight attendant as we taxi down the runway."

Indeed, taking care of yourself will assure that you are better able to help those you love. As mothers, daughters, spouses and friends we naturally put other's needs first - often at a personal cost and often resulting in exhaustion, irritability, depression, anxiety, or guilt. Over time these negative feelings can lead to illness further reducing your capacity to help others. Making time regularly to replenish your reserves is a healthy choice where everyone wins.

Examples of ways to nurture yourself include exercise, stretching, meditation, prayer, reading, spending time in nature or visiting with friends who sustain us. It doesn't matter so much what you do to nurture yourself, but that you do it at all. Here are some tips for practicing self care.

-Keep it simple. Avoid complicated or overly ambitious practices.
-Limit the activity to short time periods--15-30 minutes--especially when you are beginning.
-Choose a time of day that works best for you.
-Be consistent. Make it a habit--daily, weekly or monthly.
-Write it on your calendar.
-Ask for support from family and friends.
-Forgive yourself when you fail.
-Begin again.

For the sake of those you love, make YOURSELF a priority in 2011. They and you will be glad you did.
